Science Communications Unit

Where discovery meets understanding

The Science Communications Unit at MBI translates the frontiers of mechanobiology into knowledge to educate, inspire and connect individuals from schoolrooms to the global scientific community.

OUR FOCUS AREAS

What we do

We amplify MBI’s scientific impact through four interconnected strands of work—each designed to bring mechanobiology closer to individuals from all walks of life.

Research Communication

Featured articles, press releases and media partnerships that bring MBI's latest findings to wide audiences

Showcasing MBI science

Our feature articles distill high-impact findings from MBI investigators and collaborators in a clear and accessible format - published on the MBI website and share with the broader research community. Working alongside the NUS University Communications Office, stories of highest impacts are shaped into press releases that reach local and international media. MBI research has appeared in The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, TODAY, Asian Scientist, CNA and other international outlets.

Student Outreach

Engaging lab visits, talks, and hands-on demonstrations for secondary and undergraduate students in Singapore and beyond.

Inspiring the next generation

Our outreach programmes invite high school and undergraduate students from Singapore and international institutions to MBI for a hands=on glimpse into an interdisciplinary research environment. Each visit includes a talk from a Principal Investigator, a guided lab tour, and demonstrations of our state-of-the-art experimental methods and equipments.

Online Education

MBInfo is a free resource of illustrated, review-style resources on cellular mechanics for students and academia.

MBInfo

MBInfo was the flagship educational output of the unit. It is a curated library of illustrated, review-style descriptions of the mechanics underlying various cellular processes and basic concepts of mechanobiology. All animations and diagrams were produced in-house. MBInfo is now an archived resource that remains freely accessible as a reference for students and a teaching supplement for cell biology courses.
