MBI Young Scientist Group

The Mechanobiology Institute is committed to developing better ways to bring together the multi-disciplinary expertise that is needed to understand the systems biology of mechanical functions.

Mechanobiology is a dynamic discipline, one that demands dedication and researchers with both a broad vision and the drive to succeed. Here at MBI we are creating a new and powerful community of motivated scientists committed to the advancement of the discipline and the future of mechanobiology.

The Mechanobiology Institute’s Young Scientist Group is an organization of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows dedicated to empowering fellow young scientists to make significant contributions in science, industry and the community.

The Young Scientist Group has a three-fold mission:

  1. To support young scientists in growing their early careers through workshops and seminars intended to hone both technical and soft skills
  2. To connect these researchers to alumni, professors and industry professionals
  3. To involve young scientists in the greater research community through science communication and outreach

We seek to foster an atmosphere of support and involvement within MBI, where scientists of all levels can interact and engage in various platforms and discussions together. The MBI YSG also aims to strengthen ties between MBI’s young scientists and external organizations, which can pave the way for more scientific collaborations, industry partnerships, and personal development.

An integral part of MBI YSG is the organization of seminars and events that cater to young scientists’ needs–from technical workshops to career development opportunities. Our past events include student conferences, postdoc retreats and career talks from industry experts.

Event and Seminar On Going

SIMBA equpiment is available for booking at competitive rates.

The Biophotonic Breakfast meets the first Thursday of the month at 10am at the T-Lab, level 5, and with a simultaneously streamed session via ZOOM. Initiated by SiMBA, the Biophotonic Breakfas provides a breakfast ‘journal and method club’ dedicated to the biophotonic field. Talks focus on cutting-edge methods and new techniques in the field of microscopy, image analysis, correlative microscopy with EM, and imaging techniques in a broad sense (ie :spatial transcriptomics), with a touch of biology. The main idea is “to share and initiate brand new tech ” with some croissants (yes we can !), and so no pressure. The talks are open to everyone at MBI and members of LSI/Singascope and are an excellent opportunity for students and postdocs to demonstrate their interest in specific techniques and new ideas in a collaborative environment. Eligible candidates who wish to present are encouraged to contact SiMBA at simba-mbi.com.
