Biography
Ivan holds a Bachelor’s with Honors in Life Sciences from the National University of Singapore (NUS), completed in 2011. He further obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in 2012 before embarking on a four-year scholarship bond with the Ministry of Education, Singapore. During this time, he pursued dual postgraduate degrees: a Master of Science in Applied Physics (2013-2015) and a Master of Arts in Education Leadership and Management (2015).
Upon fulfilling his scholarship obligations, Ivan returned to NUS to complete a PhD in Mechanobiology (2015-2021) under the supervision of Assoc. Professor Yusuke Toyama. His research focused on investigating the mechanical influence of apoptotic cell extrusion on surrounding tissue.
Following his PhD, Ivan joined Assoc. Professor Low Boon Chuan’s laboratory under the A*STAR Industry Alignment Fund – Industry Collaboration Project (IAF-ICP), where his work led to a venture through the NUS Graduate Research Innovation Programme (GRIP) and the successful patenting of a cell-culture platform, “Cell-Culture Platform and A Magnetic Material For Such A Platform” (Singapore: 11202308413V; US: 20240287433).
While developing his deep tech enterprise, Ivan concurrently pursued an Executive MBA (2022-2023). He was also awarded the NUS Ministry of Education decentralized GAP fund for his project on “A Hydrogel Composition, A Method Of Preparing The Same And Uses Thereof” (PCT/SG2024/050270). His research interests encompass AI applications in science, myocardial regeneration, radiobiology, and age-related diseases. He is currently an Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellow working on “AI-assisted microscopy image analysis in mechanobiology for tissue fluidization”.
