The Mechanobiology Institute is committed to developing better ways to bring together the multi-disciplinary expertise that is needed to understand the systems biology of mechanical functions.

Mechanobiology is a dynamic discipline, one that demands dedication and researchers with both a broad vision and the drive to succeed. Here at MBI we are creating a new and powerful community of motivated scientists committed to the advancement of the discipline and the future of mechanobiology.

MBI’s PhD training program in mechanobiology brings together internationally renowned scholars to the Mechanobiology Institute in Singapore. Many principal investigators hold senior professorships in internationally prestigious institutes such as MIT, Columbia, Weizmann Institute of Science, UC Berkeley, Universities of Paris & CNRS, Illinois, Toronto, Stony Brook, NUS and NTU.

The combined accomplishments of our scholars include more than one hundred publications in Science, Nature, and Cell, and numerous publications in other top journals. Many of their previous students and postdoctoral associates have become professors and corporate executives in top institutions worldwide. Supported by over USD$110 Million in funding from the Singapore government, these illustrious scholars join hands to recruit and train the best minds in Asia. Together, we venture ahead to define a new discipline of mechanobiology.

The Biophotonic Breakfast meets the first Thursday of the month at 10am at the T-Lab, level 5, and with a simultaneously streamed session via ZOOM. Initiated by SiMBA, the Biophotonic Breakfas provides a breakfast ‘journal and method club’ dedicated to the biophotonic field. Talks focus on cutting-edge methods and new techniques in the field of microscopy, image analysis, correlative microscopy with EM, and imaging techniques in a broad sense (ie :spatial transcriptomics), with a touch of biology. The main idea is “to share and initiate brand new tech ” with some croissants (yes we can !), and so no pressure. The talks are open to everyone at MBI and members of LSI/Singascope and are an excellent opportunity for students and postdocs to demonstrate their interest in specific techniques and new ideas in a collaborative environment.
