Management Team

Mechanobiology is a dynamic discipline, one that demands dedication and researchers with both a broad vision and the drive to succeed. Here at MBI we are creating a new and powerful community of motivated scientists committed to the advancement of the discipline and the future of mechanobiology.

MBI provides an open platform to bring outstanding scientists and their projects to Singapore while providing high-quality training for students and scientists in quantitative systems approaches to understanding biomechanical functions.

The Mechanobiology Institute’s mission is to understand the mechanical aspects of cells and tissues that create organism form and function, define a fundamental set of mechanobiological operations from which these complex biological functions are built, establish this as a world-wide standard to unify the description and understanding of normal and diseased functions, and develop a robust multidisciplinary approach to mechanobiology.

Together, we are working on new ways of studying diseases through the mechanisms of molecule, cell and tissue mechanics to further the advancement of the discipline and the future of mechanobiology.

The Governing Board oversees the mission of the Institute by providing strategic direction and good stewardship.

The Governing Board serves to ensure the alignment of research carried out in MBI through regular appraisals and reviews of the performance of the institute. It also oversees the implementation of all governance policies, financial accountability and ethical conduct in research.

Overseeing the mission of the Mechanobiology Institute to establish itself as a global leader in developing a robust multi-disciplinary approach to the study of mechanobiology, the Governing Board and the Director of MBI are advised by the MBI Scientific Advisory Board (SAB).

Appointed by the Chairman of the Governing Board, the SAB makes annual visits to MBI to review research programmes and projects of the Mechanobiology Institute and provide counsel and recommendations to the Board and the Director of MBI.

The first Scientific Advisory Board was appointed in 2010 chaired by Prof Daniel Louvard (Institut Curie) and formed by members Prof Ueli Aebi (University of Basel), Prof Albert Libchaber (Rockefeller University) and Prof James Spudich (Stanford University). Each Board serves a term of 3 years.

Together with our core facility teams, MBI’s administration conducts the day-to-day operation of the Institute ranging from personnel and finance matters, to the MBI Graduate Programme, to the organization and administration of events and conferences.
